Caption-A Lowestoft Score

I love these little urchins, who are obviously delighted to have their picture taken. This card is quite in tune with the Victorian impulse to romanticise the poor...and they are the poor children of "the grit", with no shoes, no hats and matted hair. Compare this to a post-war postcard where the people are always clean, prosperous and well-kept up. We don't take pictures of the poor today and put them on postcards as decorative items.

I count 11 people. This is Mariner's Score, based on the arch at the top. This is one of the few early postcards that show any rubbish on the ground.
