This is a photo of a Royal Navy patrol ship. These trawlers were used as mine sweepers and patrol boats. The three classes of early RN trawlers were the Mersey, Castle and Strath class. This photo was taken about two years before the first purpose-built trawler was ordered and built (the Castle class, in 1916), so this one is most likely an adapted fishing trawler.

I count 14 personnel visible in the photo and all seem to be in uniform, so there were quite a few sailors on board. Of course, you can see by the message no one was too concerned about keeping the ship's movements confidential. Lessons about "Loose lips sink ships." would be taken to heart during the next war.
