This airman's uniform places him as an Observer. Wikipedia says "The role was to navigate the bomber to the target using astral navigation, map reading, and wireless position fixes and then to release the payload onto the target. The observer was often a commissioned officer but could hold any rank from Aircraftman 2nd Class (until 27 May 1940) up to Group Captain."

Other photos I have from this group show that the airman was from Birmingham. He could have possibly be stationed locally as part of the RAF Coastal Command since the wedding photos he was in were taken in Lowestoft.

There was a Coastal Command base in Beccles between 1943 and 1945. The timeline for the Command was-
