This card is quite a riddle. Do you recognise the clothing? He's wearing a United States Union Army private's uniform from around 1862; a uniform from the American Civil War. He's wearing a early war style frock coat and McDowell forage cap. Yet, Bevan didn't start taking pictures any earlier than 1874 and this young man doesn't look to be more than 14 or 15! So while it's possible that he's a baby-faced 30 year old American Civil War veteran in trousers so big they're folded over at the waist, it's pretty unlikely. So why the uniform? It's a mystery.
