This photo is a mystery. The Mayor of Lowestoft is shaking the hand of a very proud looking man in front of the Claremont Pier. Who is he?

After the war, the Claremont was in a very sad state after the MOD half-destroyed it to prevent it being used as a landing point during a Nazi invasion. The public record has the pier being purchased by "actor George Studd" who made some repairs (I hesitate to call them improvements, although I'm sure the changes he made seemed like good ideas to him). After just a few years of ownership, Mr. Studd gave up and the pier was sold to the Borough of Lowestoft, who ran it a few years and then it passed over to private ownership.

I can't find any record of any films or plays that George Studd acted in. So who was he? Is this him? You would think a professional actor (or producer or director) would have some photo stills and there are plenty of places online to look up old actors, but there is nothing at all about George Studd- not a review, newspaper clipping, or PR photo. Just an online photo of a gravestone, and we can't even tell if it's him.

So is this a photo of Mr. Studd and the Mayor opening up the pier? I don't know.
