The Turnbull & Scott were merchant fleet (1882 to 1990) owners. In 1968 they entered in coastal chemical and oil trades with the formation of Whitehall Shipping Co. Ltd, which was partially by the company in partnership with A.H. Basse Rederi A/S of Copenhagen. The ships were to have stainless steel cargo tanks, a fact signified by STAINLESS in their names. Turnbull & Scott used "-Gate" in the names of their ships (ie- Highgate, Southgate, etc.). Skeldergate was not the first ship christened with that name by Turnbull & Scott, but the second.

Three ships of about 3000 dwt were built by the partnership between 1970 and 1974. The coastal tanker Skeldergate of 3500 dwt was completed in April,1976 at Lowestoft by Richards Shipbuilders, Ltd., and underwent modification at the Wear Dockyard in early 1984 to a water conversion and storage vessel for use in the Falklands. In 1983 she was sold and renamed Cabo Azul, 1984 repurchased renamed Skeldergate. In 1986 the coastal tanker Skeldergate was bareboat chartered to Turkish owners renamed Yasemin S and purchased two years later. In 1990, she was sold and renamed Tiger Cat.
