In 1877 (shortly before her death at the age of 103) Bevan photographed Lady Pleasance Smith, daughter of the Lord of the Manor of Lowestoft and wife of the Linnaean Society’s founder.

Another card of Lady Smith, who was born to wealth and died in poverty at age 103-4. She was a subject of endless fascination, especially locally and Bevan printed hundreds of these cards. This particular card is one of a pair; L1241 and L1242, who have notes in the same spidery handwriting.
