I you think that decals are a modern invention, think again! A hundred years ago kids were collecting little photos of their mates. The photos, taken by an early type of automatic photo system, had a layer of glue on the back so they could stick them in albums and it was quite a fad for a while.

Barker's Studios sold "stickybacks" in partnership with Sidney Boultwood (at least, they shared an address)and operated out of 155 London Road, Lowestoft between 1912-1913. More than one company produced ‘Sticky Backs’ and according to The Suffolk Directory branches of a StickyBack chain was run by Sidney Boultwood. The boy's sailor cap says "Triumph" on it. I can't see if it is an HMS Triumph or not. LT562 "Triumph" sailed out of Lowestoft. HMS Triumph was a Home Fleet dreadnought.
