Dear John,
I would be so pleased if you could come over and see the Monitor & other new boats. Don't you think you could come right away from school on one of your half holidays & have dinner with us & then look round in the afternoon! DO if you can & if your mother would like you to come!
We hear this morning some Passenger boat stuck a mine not far from Lowe & about 300 passengers are being brought in here.
How sad it is, isn't it!
Best Love to all,
Auntie

Caption: Found After Bombardment
Lowestoft, April 25, 1916

I'm attributing this to H. Jenkins based on the body of work of his that shows the same white paint handwriting on Bombardment post cards.

This is a most interesting message on the card. It notable for three things...one is the new boat, the Monitor, which might be able to be traced. The other is that the postmark is only 8 days after the Bombardment of Lowestoft and Mr. Jenkins had cards out for sale by then and were being used. Since this is shrapnel was found in the days after the Bombardment as craters and damage was dug out, the card might only have been a couple days old when it was sent. Thirdly, it also mentions a nearby passenger boat hitting a mine and 300 passengers needing rescued. This would have been major news in the paper if the Bombardment hadn't happened, but I haven't run across news accounts of this yet.
