D. -France

Cherbourg

Cherbourg is the base of the 5th E-Boat Flotilla.

E. -Germany

(i)Misdroy

The Flak School at Misdroy is divided into two groups, each of about 40 men. One is for instruction in 20 mm. (.79-in.) and the other in 3-7 cm. (1.45- in.) guns. The course last eight weeks. (Information as at August, 1940). Prisoners thought that since this date the size of the establishement had greatly expanded.

(ii)Neustrelitz

Neustrelitz is the base of the 1st Ship's Engines Training Division ("Schiffsmaschinenausbildungabteilung") . The establishent is divided into two companies :--

1st Company .. ("Mot-Kompanie") gives a 16-week No. 3 Engineering course ("Mo-3").

2nd Company .. ("A.T.G Kompanie") gives a 16-week "Allgemeine technische Grundaus bildung " course in techincal matters.

The Commanding Offer of the establishment is Korvettekapitan (Ing.) Herbert Preuss. (All information as at May, 1942.)

(iii)Waren

Waren is the base of a constructional company which acts as a drafting depot. It gives a special course in contructional engineering (Spring, 1942.)

(iv)Swinemunde

Swinemunde is the base of the E-Boat Training Flotialla. The Senior Officer is a Kapitanleutnant Hermann Opdenhoff, of the 1934 term. His Adjutant is Oberleutnant zur See Rolf Dohring, of the October 1938 term. His Flotilla Engineer Officer is Oberleutnant (Ing.) Grotsch.

The School Flotilla includes:--

"S 20"

"S 21"

"S 24"

"S 25"

"S 50"

"S 103"

"S 107"

(all old type boats except "S 103" and "S 107"). (All information as at October, 1942.)

(v)Stralsund

Kapitan zur See Rolf Grumprich, of the 1914 term, is in command of the 7th Manning Division at Stralsund. (Information as at October, 1942.)

F. -Netherlands

(i)Haamstede

A former religious seminary at Haamstede (a suburb of Haarlem) is used to accommodate personnel of the 2nd E-Boat Flotilla.

(ii)Overveen (near Haarlem)

Overveen, a residential suburb of Haarlem, is used ot accomodate personnel of the 6th E-Boat Flotilla, who have their headquarters at 289, Bloemendaalsche Weg. Some ratings are billeted in Haarlem. One such Billet is Klosterstraat 48.

(iii)Rotterdam

Boats of the 6th E-Boat Flotilla requiring a short engine overhaul undergo it at the yards of the Wilton Fijenoord Company at Rotterdam. The 4th E-Boat Flotilla is based on Rotterdam.

(iv)Scheveningen

Ship's companies of E-Boats undergoing short engine overhauls at Rotterdam are accommodated at hotels in Scheveningen and proceed as required to Rotterdam.

(v)Ymuiden

Ymuiden is the base of the 2nd and 6th E-Boat Flotillas (see Section VII). Prisoners stated that excavations for foundations are proceeding behind the E-Boat shelters in the Heringhaven. Present accommodation is for ten E-Boats, each in a separate pen.
